During the guided tours through our beekeeping museum, you will learn all about beekeeping and research, life in the beehive and the extraction of various bee products, such as propolis and pollen. To make what you have heard tangible for you, we have exhibited a collection of beekeeping equipment, tools and everyday farm objects for our visitors in the former barn of the Plattnerhof.
Has the square beehive as we know it today always existed? Many things used to be more complicated and less efficient – including beekeeping. In our museum you can see what bee homes looked like, how they were used and how they developed. Since beekeepers were already interested in wax at that time, the first wax presses were built here.
You can also find out more about the artistically painted beehives and what a bicycle has to do with a historic honey extractor at our museum!

Beekeeping has evolved. Today’s beehive has several clever features, which allow a certain degree of control in beekeeping and easier honey extraction. Modern-day extractors ensure that honey is extracted without destroying the valuable honeycombs. We will also show you how pollen and propolis are collected and how – you may have read it on the shop page – a queen can be sent by mail.
