Chestnut honey is made from the nectar of chestnut tree blossoms and has a slightly bitter taste. Both in scent and flavor, it recalls tannins and wood. Due to these flavor notes, it is less sweet and more liquid compared to other honeys. Plattner Bienenhof chestnut honey is a great companion to aged cheeses but also tastes excellent when enjoyed traditionally. Freshly harvested honey is liquid but may crystallize over time. This process is entirely natural, and crystallized honey can be returned to a liquid state by gently warming it in a water bath (up to 40 °C).
