The pond on the south-west-side of the farm, today is a place of natural beauty. Here rare plants such as water-lilies or reed have found refuge. In the past however these ponds were used as water-reservoirs to extinguish fire. In case of fire people could carry the water to every point of the farm by use of chains of buckets.

Because of the construction and especially because of the straw roof the farm was in constant threat of fire. Such ponds mostly had no natural source, and thus had to be refilled manually or by rain water. Of course the water had to be cleaned and changed regularly.
